Airports are like mazes with important way points like check-in, baggage drop-off, security, boarding and deplaning. This has led to many airports to use technology like biometrics, mobile boarding passes, fast public Wi-Fi and computer tomography (CT) scanners to smooth operations and increase traveler satisfaction.
Handling the Language Barrier
Airports also employ communication solutions like airport translators, multilingual signage and over-the-phone interpreting services like LanguageLine to help non-native speakers find the services and places they need. Unfortunately, while airport translators are useful, hiring additional employees can be expensive. Signage is limited and can only present what it was designed for. Finally, although LanguageLine is a useful solution, it relies on translators via call or video and costs depend on the traffic through an airport and languages required. A more recent alternative is real-time translation which is a new and improving technology that may help lower the communication barrier.
