Most cloud service providers (CSPs) have made it easy for businesses to move applications to the cloud–resulting in increased scalability, cost savings, agility, and resilience. Importing data into a CSP is usually free, but there are frequent costs (egress fees) attached to removing your data. Once you are in, you are locked into that vendor. CSPs, such as Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, have announced the removal of egress fees–reducing vendor lock-in and allowing businesses to freely migrate their data to another CSP. Technology acquisition decision-makers will benefit from this change as they switch providers to find better deals and services. However, they must be aware that this offer does not apply to all businesses and specific conditions must be met–so egress fees are still there.
